Arctech secures Sovcomflot stand-by order

The series of state-of-the-art icebreaking vessels also includes one larger platform supply vessel, the contract for which was signed earlier this year. The 95m vessels are designed for stand-by and rescue duties and for oil spill recovery and based on Aker Arctic concept Aker ARC 121. They can also be used as supply vessels for cargo transfer.

“We are extremely satisfied to receive an order of three arctic offshore vessels from Sovcomflot. This remarkable order brings a lot of work to our shipyard and to the whole maritime cluster. We will also strengthen our organisation considerably”, said Esko Mustamäki, managing director, Arctech Helsinki Shipyard.

Arctech says the four diesel generator engines have a total power of around 20,000 kW and the propulsion power of each vessel is 13,000 kW.

They will operate in thick drifting ice for ice management and icebreaking in temperatures as cold as minus 35 degrees Celsius and will have the ability to navigate independently in 1.5m thick ice.

They will also be outfitted for emergency evacuation, fir fighting operations and helicopter operations and will feature a moon pool for diving support.

Delivery is scheduled between September 2016 and March 2017.
