Arctech wins government order

The new vessel, which Arctech says will feature the highest technology, has been specifically designed for the demanding icebreaking operations in the Baltic Sea.

Its design means it will be capable of moving continuously through 1.6m thick level ice, break a 25m wide channel in 1.2m thick ice at a speed of six knots, and reach nine to 11 knots of average assistance speed in the Baltic Sea.

The icebreaker will use both diesel and LNG as its fuel, which will significantly reduce emissions and operating costs for the FTA.

It will also be equipped for oil spill response operations and emergency towing and is expected to be delivered by winter 2016.
