At-sea and in-harbour control

Although the Kelvin Hughes Manta integrated bridge system uses flat screen technology the company says it can also be fitted to standard consoles of commercial vessels where type approved displays would replace the flat screens.

The bridge is designed to operate in two modes; `At Sea` and `Harbour`. While `At Sea` five displays operate as radar, ECDI, conning display, collision assessment and avoidance as well as alarm monitoring and control/communications systems.

The `In Harbour` mode allows the displays to be used for general ship`s monitoring and control functions such as power management, bilge, fuel and water tank control, fire detection, navigation and deck lights, security, video surveillance, personnel locating systems and office based applications.

The Manta also incorporates real-time meteorological systems and the ChartCo automatic chart correction system.

All systems available can be operated via the control fitted to the arm of the navigator chair, or local three-button control. Keyboard control of individual systems is achieved via shared keyboards, says Kelvin Hughes.
