Australian cat for Bahamas

Bahamas Ferries recently took delivery of a 41m by 12m catamaran, the Bo Hengy II, from Aluminium Marine of Queensland. Built to a design by Oceanic Yacht Design, also of Queensland, the vessel’s semi-swath hull design, combined with good clearance of the bridge between the hulls, allows the high service speed of 25 knots to be maintained in heavy sea conditions.

The propulsion package combines two Cummins KTA 38 M2 engines and two Cummins QSK19 M engines so that each hull has a 586kW and a 895kW engine. All four high speed diesel engines power propellers through Reintjes gears.

With a capacity for 400 passengers, the 490gt Bo Hengy II can also carry two cars on the after deck. An 8,000 litre fuel capacity gives the vessel a 600-mile range. The newbuilding is classed under Lloyds as +100 A1 SSC, Passenger Catamaran, HSC G2.
