BAE to build PSVs for Jackson Offshore Operators

Under the contract, BAE will build two 252ft long PSVs which will serve offshore drilling operations. The GPA 675J PSV design will be provided by Washington based naval architects, Guido Perla & Associates. The PSVs will include an integrated Rolls-Royce ship systems package complete with low voltage active front end diesel electric system and a Rolls-Royce propulsion package with Azipull propulsion thrusters.

Richard McCreary, vice president and general manager of BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards, said: “This contract is a good fit for BAE Systems in Jacksonville as the facility has a proven track record and has been successful in the construction of vessels to support the offshore market.”

The vessels, which will be qualified under the US Jones Act, will be built at BAE’s shipyard in Jacksonville.

The contract, which was announced at the International Work Boat Show 2012, includes options for two additional PSVs and supports BAE’s continued growth in US commercial shipbuilding and its support to the oil and gas industry.
