BAE to upgrade Barrow
BAE, the UK?s major naval shipbuilder, is to spend more than £20 million modernising the Barrow shipyard and also preserving facilities that could be used for a return to surface shipbuilding. The company announced it is launching a “major site programme for 2005 comprising capital investment, preservation of existing facilities and demolition or sale of unused facilities. Facilities that are ageing but of strategic value will undergo preservation or refurbishment and disposal of buildings and areas no longer required will reduce overheads.”
