Bakker power for Brazilian ferries
For each ferry, Bakker will supply two thruster drive systems, twin 690VAC main switchboards, two auxiliary switchboards and four electromotors delivering 700kW each.
The drive systems will be manufactured in The Netherlands but the switchboards and drive systems will be built by Bakker Marine Electric Zhanghou (China) and then delivered to the shipyard.
Designed by CoCo Yachts Holland, the ferries are double-ended aluminium with an LOA of 78m with a capacity of 2,000 passengers.
The ferries have been ordered in preparation for the 2014 Rio de Janeiro World Cup followed by the Olympic Games in 2016 and will be added to the existing fleet to up the transport capacity of the Rio de Janeiro to Niterió route.
Bakker is well known for its many electrical installations on board vessels of the Dutch and Belgian based dredging fleets of the world’s major international contractors.
The power expert has also a diesel-electric propulsion concept for two Swedish Coastguard patrol vessels built by Damen Shipyards.
