BC Ferries rejects union claim

A union representing Canadian shipyard workers claims BC Ferries has already decided to have new ships built by in Germany. The allegation was made by George MacPherson, president of the B.C. General Shipyard Workers Federation who claims Hahn is taking orders from the provincial Liberal government to build new superferries in Europe.

Responding to this charge, BC Ferries president David Hahn says MacPherson should stop whining and work with B.C. shipbuilders to concentrate on how to win upcoming contracts to build ferries. Hahn also turned aside claims by MacPherson that BC Ferries has already signed a deal with a German shipbuilder to construct new ferries. He says the process won’t be finished until the BC Ferry board votes on it next month.

MacPherson earlier claimed that he believes a Finnish company has dropped out of the bidding and BC Ferries has signed a deal with the German firm, Flensburger.
