BLRT Grupp finishes SCF repair

The repair work on the 249m vessel was carried out at BLRT’s Turku Repair shipyard, which has carried out similar vessel repair works before. Following the SCF Baltica’s arrival, the ship repair team dismantled, machined, re-assembled and balanced the shaft line and the 35 tonne propeller.

In addition, the main propulsion, which weighs around 500 tonnes, was aligned with shaft line using Chockfast orange – an epoxy resin designed to withstand severe marine environments.

Vesa Marttinen, deputy managing director of Turku Repair Yard, told The Motorship: “It was a propulsion line damage that was fully recognised after inspection at dry dock. New solutions were found co-creatively by BLRT Turku Yard and SCF site teams. Mutual flexibility enabled revised plans for expanded scope. The vessel has now been sent back to service ensuring its competitiveness in the Baltic Sea trade.”

“We have close and constructive relationship with SCF who is a regular client for BLRT’s ship repair business, but this was the first time an Aframax size tanker has been in our shipyard. Discussion for future repair, maintenance and retrofit co-operation is ongoing,” he added.
