Bore proves SEEMP software delivers savings

NAPA’s Speed Optimiser software has been designed to reduce fuel consumption as the maritime industry faces stricter regulations. Bore took part in an 89 day sea trial of the software which was carried out between April and July 2012 along routes between Cadiz and Naples and Cadiz and Pauillac.

Following a 63 day reference phase of the company’s more efficient ro-ro vessels, M/V Bore Sea, was fitted with the software to enable efficiency improvements to the vessel’s speed profile. Results found that fuel consumption was reduced by 5.8%. Bore calculated that the software delivered annual fuel savings of 320 tonnes, equivalent to US$210,000 in fuel savings per annum.

Matti Salo, executive vice president for operations, NAPA, said: “Based on our calculations, the savings achieved on the M/V Bore Sea equate to a 1,000 tonne annual reduction of CO2 emissions for this vessel. There is also potential for further savings to be achieved, aboard this vessel with other elements of NAPA for Operations software, such as route optimisation, cargo positioning, ballast and fouling amongst other measures.”
