BP back in Cyprus

BP Marine is about to re-open its marine fuels business in the ports of Limassol and Larnaca, Cyprus after an absence of nearly 2 years. The bunkering facility will commence operations by mid-February 2005 will be capable of providing a 24-7 service in this key Mediterranean location.

BP has introduced the first double-hulled barge to operate in any Cyprus port and will offer both port-side and at-anchor deliveries. Marine lubricants will also be included as part of a comprehensive bunkering service.

The decision to make a temporary withdrawal from the Cyprus marine fuels market was due to a number of factors regarding access to products and ageing of available barge vessels, which gave rise to concerns about their suitability to provide an acceptable service. “We felt that we could not provide a service that meets BP?s global standards, so decided to it was right to re-organise”, said BP Marine?s market manager for the Mediterranean Region, Seve Kyriacou.

“Safety, quality and reliability are central to what we offer. We are confident that our new facilities will be the highest level available in Cyprus, providing on-time-in-full deliveries within a safe and efficient operation”, he continued.
