With its heavy reliance on the offshore business, Norway?s shipbuilding industry has been particularly successful in this niche market. The latest delivery took place at Brattvaag Skipsverft when the yard handed over hull no. 77, a multipurpose offshore supply vessel with additional fire-fighting functions, to Consensus Fjord KS. Named Carline Tide, the 1,969g newbuilding was scheduled to be operated by Det Nordenfjelske Dampskipsselskap of Trondheim but was sold to Tidewater Inc, USA following the delivery ceremony. This will be the second ship the Aker Brattvaag Group has delivered to Consensus / Tidewater. A third vessel will be delivered to Consensus in December 2002. Powered by a pair of Ulstein Bergen KRMB-9 diesel engines driving twin propellers, Carline Tide?s service speed is 14 knots. It is fitted with a 515kW bow thruster and a 590kW stern thruster. With a length of 67m, a beam of 16m and a draught of 5.9m, the vessel is based on Rolls-Royce Marine?s UT 755 design.
