Brazil orders local bulker pair

Brazilian shipowner Log-In Logistica has placed an order at compatriot shipbuilder Estaleiro Ilha (Eisa) for a pair of 80,000 dwt bulkers.

The shipowner says it is investing $165m in the newbuildings which will receive 90% financing from the government Merchant Marine Fund. Under the 25-year contract of affreightment, Log-In will transport six million tonnes of bauxite ore for aluminium company Alumina do Norte do Brasil.

Beginning in January 2010, the ships will carry the cargoes between Trobetas and Vila do Conde in Para state. Log-In plans to charter-in vessels until delivery of the newbuildings which are scheduled to arrive at the end of 2011 and in the third quarter of 2012.

Currently Eisa is building five 2,700-teu containerships for Log-In.
