Brunvoll to serve cruise industry

This is Brunvoll’s first project for the cruise industry and will consist of a gearbox and propeller system, rudder, steering gear, tunnel thruster and control systems.

“This is a strategic important contract for us as it also positions us as a system supplier including propulsion systems to the cruise segment,” said Hallvard Pettersen, CEO of Brunvoll.

The propulsion system is a twin-screw diesel-electric system driven by electric power, while the bow thruster is of controllable pitch type and the rudders are conventional full spade rudders with rotary vane steering gear system.

The deal follows a design and equipment contract between Norway-based Ulstein Design & Solutions, China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) and US-owned SunStone, which will see the vessel be constructed with from a Ulstein CX103 design.

Brunvoll’s systems will be delivered in Q1 and Q2 2018.
