Buckleys launches marine corrosion monitoring kit
The UK-based Buckleys (UVRAL), the original manufacturer of the Bathycorrometer and a leading manufacturer of specialist test equipment, has launched a ?marine survey kit? to enhance its existing underwater corrosion analysis range designed for use on marine structures including harbour jetties, oil rigs, ships and drilling platforms. The marine survey kit is a close proximity testing tool that enables the rapid measurement of corrosion levels, and real-time analysis of results.
The standard Kit, specifically designed for use in seawater, comprises a silver/silver chloride half cell, multimeter, plastic cable spool and a 75 metre lead. The hand held unit is used in proximity of surface structures, is weighted to help keep it in position and housed in a PVC body with holes to allow the easy flow of water past the cell. Lightweight and easy-to-use, the half cell weighs just 350 grams and has a temperature range of 0 – 30° Centigrade.
Managing Director at Buckleys, Paul Hoveman, said, “We developed the Marine Survey Kit to fulfil a customer requirement, however in the process we discovered that we could greatly improve on other systems available at that time. With few alternatives on the market, the existing kits were expensive and sold in component form ? rather than as a complete package. Our version is equipped with everything required for precise close proximity testing, and is very competitively-priced.”
A full-customisation service, also offered by Buckleys, enables users to tailor the Marine Survey Kit components to their own individual requirements. As well as increasing the length of cables to correspond to the depth of testing (up to a maximum of 150 metres), the kit can be supplied with or without the multimeter.
The company can also build specialised items such as reference electrodes and anodes to customers? drawings, on request. Paul continues, “We work in partnership with our customers to hone the design and efficacy of testing equipment until it fits their criteria. In this way, the equipment can be designed for specific projects and structures to provide the most accurate readings. We do recommend, however, that results gleaned from Marine Survey Kit be interpreted by a specialist corrosion engineer.”
