Buoy tender contract for Mexican yard

Strategic Marine Mexico?s Joint venture Partner, Mexican ship building company Servicios Navales E Industriales (SENI), has been awarded a contract to build two 35 metre buoy tender vessels for the Mexico Ministry of Communications and Transport.

These vessels will primarily be used to install and maintain over 700 buoy?s in the Gulf of Mexico and on the Pacific Coast, and will also assist in search and rescue missions, surveillance work for the Federal Marine Protection. Delivery is scheduled for the end of October next year.

The two newbuildings, to be named “Virgo” and “Sagittarius”, will be 35 metres in length and have a moulded breadth of 10 metres. They will join the existing fleet of seven buoy-laying ships that provide maintenance service to 270 buoys of the Marine Signalling National System and 467 buoys of the Integral Port Administrations.

Strategic Marine also announced that it had officially purchased the lease for its Singapore shipyard, further adding to the company?s commitment of becoming a global industry player. The news comes only months after the decision was taken to double the yard?s capacity to meet anticipated demand for crew boats and offshore service vessels.
