BV in Russian registry agreement

Paris-based classification society Bureau Veritas has entered an agreement with the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation delegating BV the authority to conduct statutory certification services and to issue certificates for vessels registered in the Russian International Registry of Ships.

Bernard Anne, managing director of BV?s marine division, says, “Russia is an increasingly important maritime nation with huge potential for growth. This agreement between the Russian Ministry of Transport and Bureau Veritas provides us with a firm foundation from which we can assist shipowners developing business in Russia. In addition to major fleets of conventional vessels now flying the Russian International Registry flag, there are a large number of very sophisticated specialist vessels either in service or under development for service in very cold and extreme ice conditions. Our special research into those areas will especially benefit owners participating in projects to help Russia export its energy and commodities to world markets.”

The agreement was signed in Moscow and covers delegation to Bureau Veritas of the right to conduct surveys and issue statutory certificates for all the normal IMO international certification.
