The Hyde Guardian uses ultraviolet disinfection to treat ships’ ballast water

“We are looking forward to continuing our partnership with Hyde Marine as we work together to ensure shipowners and operators have access to one of the industry’s leading ballast water treatment technologies,” said Rob McBurney, commercial director, Cammell Laird.

“Hyde Marine’s commitment to providing superior service and support will drive continued success for Cammell Laird clients as the industry works to comply with pending ballast water treatment requirements,” he added.

The Hyde Guardian BWT process uses filtration and ultraviolet disinfection to treat ships’ ballast water to prevent the spread of invasive species.

In April 2013, Hyde’s system became one of the first BWTS to earn Alternative Management System (AMS) approval from the United States Coast Guard (USCG).

Hyde says it was also the first to be accepted into the USCG’s Shipboard Technology Evaluation Programme (STEP), which helps with the development of effective BWTS technologies for vessel owners looking for alternatives to ballast water exchange.
