Cammell Laird lengthens cable layer

The Nexans Skagerrak was the first purpose-built vessel to be designed specially for the transport and installation of submarine high-voltage power cables and umbilicals. The vessel arrived at the yard in late January and the conversion work includes lengthening the ship from 106.00m to 118.5m by inserting a new hull section, the installation of an additional accommodation module and supporting systems, and the installation of a new working deck complete with cable handling equipment.

Nexans Skagerrak is currently equipped with a 7,000 tonne capacity 29m diameter turntable, a computer based laying control system and a state of the art dynamic positioning system, and can also deploy Nexans’ specialist Capjet ROV trenching systems for cable burial operations.
