Caterpillar announces EPA certification for MaK range

The EPA approval applies to all engines with cylinder volume above 30 litres, which includes the M 32 C, M 43 C, M 46 DF as well as the new M 34 DF. This, says the company, provides a wide spectrum of power nodes to meet emissions regulations on US flagged vessels in the commercial and offshore markets.

The M 34 DF dual fuel engine, with power rating of 500kW/cylinder at 720 and 750 rpm in diesel and gas modes, shares the same footprint as the M 32 C series. Using gas, the M 34 DF will provide an alternative to marine diesel oil or scrubber installations for ECA operation as of 2015.

Vessel operators in the offshore segment, including platform supply vessels, anchor handling tug supply vessels and platform supply vessels, can confidently invest in the new M 34 dual fuel solution based on the success of the M 32 C.”
