CCS and DNV tighten cooperation
DNV Software is to supply the China Classification Society (CCS) with Nauticus software. Amongst a range of mutual exchanges between the two classification societies, the recent purchase of the Nauticus software is further indication of China?s technological advance. CCS is a member IACS and a central player in the fast growing Chinese shipbuilding and shipping industries. They will use the Nauticus software at the Rules and Research Institute in Shanghai.

While Chinese shipbuilding has long concentrated on developing standard ship designs, there is a current trend for developing innovative and significantly larger ships such as ultra large container carriers and very large crude oil carriers. A central issue for novel ship design is the need for direct assessment of hydrodynamic loads, motions and structural strength. This procedure, often called Direct Strength Assessment (DSA), calls for advanced hydrodynamic software and it?s here DNV Software?s world leading tools comes in demand.
DNV Software has developed hydrodynamic software to the maritime and offshore industries for more than 35 years. The well known WADAM and WASIM software are results of joint industry projects in close co-operations with major research and industry players like Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Together with engineers from MARIC, Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI9), Dalian Shipyard, China Ship Development & Design Center, Wuhan University and Jiangsu University, CCS engineers attended a Nauticus Hull Wave Load training course at the DNV Academy in Shanghai 6-8 June.
