Mr Sanguinetti will continue in role for six months and the recruitment process for a new CEO will begin shortly.

John Denholm, president of the UK Chamber of Shipping said that Mr Sanguinetti had been a great servant to the Chamber over the past three years. “He has led the organisation through an incredibly difficult time, but we have nonetheless gone from strength to strength and I want to thank him for his hard work and dedication,” he said.

Aberdeen Harbour is currently undergoing a £350 million expansion focusing on the environment and sustainability. “Having someone like Bob as our CEO will give us the edge we need to drive our business to the next level and we look forward to welcoming him to the board in September,” said Alistair Mackenzie, chair of Aberdeen Harbour Board.

Mr Sanguinetti said that he had worked with the best people across the industry during his time at the UK Chamber of Shipping. “I am excited to be taking up the role of chief executive at the Aberdeen Harbour Board later this year but I am not going anywhere straightway and will be at the Chamber until the late summer to ensure a seamless handover to the candidate who is fortunate enough to be appointed,” he said.
