Chartco under single ownership

Smiths Marine Sytems has acquired Fugro?s share in the ChartCo joint venture, such that ChartCo is now totally owned by Smiths. ChartCo was set up in 1998 as an innovative enterprise to distribute navigation data, weather and other information to ship operators by satellite broadcast. On a worldwide basis, it now has over 2000 ship contracts for its service.

ChartCo will operate within Smiths Marine Systems with Kelvin Hughes, the world?s largest distributor of marine charts, publications and navigation data and a leading manufacturer of marine navigation equipment, together they will be able to offer an unparalleled range of services. These start from the basic supply of charts, books and marine data, in paper and electronic form, through to update services for complete fleet management delivered via paper, email, web-based and satellite broadcast systems.
