China?s exports of new ship rises dramatically

Exports of new ships built by Chinese shipbuilders last year reached $3.02 billion, up 57% compared with $1.93 billion in 2002.

By ship types, this figure comprises of 41 container ships valued at $565 million, 43 bulk carriers worth $559 billion, 51 product carriers at $498 million and 5 crude oil tankers costing $325 million. Broken down by country, exports to German ship owners amounted to $634 million, $293 million to Singapore and $216 million to Sweden.

Chinese shipbuilders imported $ 812 million ships last year, 33.74 percent increase compared to 2002.
