Chinese yard names first own-design AHTS
Featuring diesel electric propulsion with DP2 capability, the 80m AHTS was named Bahtera Mulia and handed over to Bourbon at the same time as Liberty 254, the last vessel in Bourbon’s Liberty 200 series.
Sinopacific says that the SPA 80 delivery marks the completion of the transition from joint to independent design, with all design work produced in-house by Sinopacific’s SDA design subsidiary. SDA has produced designs for a series of OSV products, such as the SPP 17, SPP 35 and SPU1000.
The SPA 80 is equipped with three diesel generator sets, several thrusters are installed on its bow and stern, and it features unmanned engine room control. The hull is designed for low resistance and reduced fuel consumption while maintaining good seakeeping ability. The SPA 80 is claimed to offer cargo capacity some 7% greater than other designs of similar size, while weight has been reduced by 9% through optimizing the hull structure. The design has been certified by Bureau Veritas as a ‘Clean Ship’.
The yard says it has orders for 20 ships to the SPA 80 design, and has now delivered a total of 117 OSVs.
