Christening for Anthony Veder LNG carrier

The development of the Coral Energy began in 2010 for Norwegian gas provider, Skangass. The vessel which is the world’s first direct driven dual fuel ice class 1A LNG carrier, is being built at the Neptun Weft Shipyard in Rostock, Germany.

Skangass ordered the 154m vessel for the transportation of LNG to remote places and smaller terminals where the fuel can be used as bunker fuel for other ships, power generation and retail distribution. The Coral Energy will replace the Coral Methane which currently operates between Risavika, Øra and Nynäshamn in Sweden.

The loading capacity of the new LNG carrier is twice as large as the Coral Methane to enable it to carry large volumes of LNG to customers in Sweden and Eastern Norway. The ship’s capacity also provides more opportunities for future contracts. Its 1A notation will also provide opportunities for remote communities in the Nordic region which have been relying on polluting fuel oil for various applications up until now.
