CIMAC users group seeks revised guarantees

The CIMAC users group wants revised guarantees for engines and components that more accurately reflect the promises made by manufacturers pre-purchase. J?rn Dragsted, chairman of the CIMAC users? working group, points to data collected by the working group, which shows that occurrences of engine failures increase dramatically as more running hours are completed by engines. This often results in failures after the guarantee period has expired meaning the expense of repair has to be borne by the operator. The failure will often occur before the time the manufacturer says a component should be good for. Dragsted is therefore calling for “intelligent guarantees”. “When you buy an engine there are a lot of promises,” he says. “This [intelligent guarantee] will force suppliers to maintain high quality.”
