The collaboration combines Norsepower’s Rotor Sails with Syroco’s advanced AI data platform, offering shipowners real-time insights to optimise routes by balancing wind propulsion with environmental factors like waves and currents.

“Our collaboration with Syroco is an important step forward in optimising the potential of wind propulsion,” said Jarkko Väinämö, CCO at Norsepower.

“By accurately validating the performance of Norsepower Rotor Sails and demonstrating how advanced AI can amplify their benefits, we are driving significant progress in sustainable shipping. Together, we are proving that cleaner, more efficient shipping is not only achievable but measurable.”

Digital twin

By creating a digital twin of a vessel, the platform provides accurate performance evaluation and enhances operational efficiency.

Syroco’s technology integrates weather and sea data with IoT data from onboard systems to model key vessel characteristics, enabling optimised routing and amplifying wind propulsion benefits.

A user-friendly interface helps operators make data-driven decisions while quantifying fuel savings and emission reductions.

Alex Caizergues, CEO of Syroco, said: “By integrating Norsepower Rotor Sails with digital twin models, the Syroco platform helps the crew obtain the most optimized routing at any time and essentially amplifies the effect of wind assistance.”

With further joint deployments planned, the partnership seeks to further showcase how combining innovative technologies can help meet the maritime industry’s future decarbonisation goals and regulatory demands going forward.
