Completion of first J-ENG 6UEC50LSH-Eco-C2-EGR engine
Following completion of the test on 7 October, the engine is due to be delivered to Onomichi Dockyard Co., Ltd shipyard.
The LP EGR system’s recirculation lines are built-in on the engine, which simplifies installation in the engine room. The use of re-circulated exhaust gases from the turbocharger outlet permits greater operational flexibility, claims J-ENG, as the engine and EGR operations can be modified independently. As a result, the EGR can be activated or turned off during operation when sailing in and out of Emission Control Areas.
The low-pressure EGR system is being applied to other UEC engine models, and production is ramping up, the engine manufacturer concluded.
