Construction begins on Vietnamese shiprepair yard

Construction on the $250 million Nosco-Vinalines ship repair plant kicked off in Yen Hung District, northern Quang Ninh Province. The new ship repair yard will cover a total land area of 100ha on the right bank of the Chanh River, in Yen Hung District.

Construction will consist of two phases with the first one planned to cost $150 million and be completed by 2011, and the second phase to finish two years later.

Once completed, the yard will be capable of repairing ships with capacities ranging from 70,000 DWT to 100,000 DWT, and will be expected to generate jobs for 700-800 people.
