The approval also extends to the Gen 4 Battery Management System Pack Controller, ensuring cybersecurity compliance across the entire NxtGen product family.

“This approval from DNV confirms that our energy storage systems are not only engineered for performance and reliability but also built to withstand the digital threats facing modern vessels.”

Following an extensive independent assessment, the certification recognises more than 50 cybersecurity capabilities, including secure architecture, access control, data integrity and safe remote software and firmware updates. It also covers the company’s Corvus Lighthouse platform, which enables real-time diagnostics, monitoring and advanced analytics.

In an environment of rising geopolitical tensions and increasing cyber risks, maritime infrastructure has become an attractive target for attacks. As vessels adopt more connected technologies, energy storage systems are emerging as critical points of vulnerability due to their role in propulsion and onboard safety systems.

Corvus has designed its ESS solutions to prevent unauthorised access and protect wider vessel networks. Features such as encrypted communications, secure remote servicing and strict access management aim to ensure operational continuity and system integrity.

The latest certification builds on existing approvals for Corvus’ Orca ESS from DNV and other classification societies, including ABS, Bureau Veritas and RINA.
