Croatians rebuild Onassis? Christina

Croatian-shipyard Viktor Lenac has completed a virtual rebuild of Aristotle Onassis? former private yacht Christina O. It has replaced 600t of steel and 12t of aluminium on the 1943-built vessel. It has also carried out 140t of pipe replacement and 85km of electrical cable laying in a contract placed with the yard by the John Paul Papanicolau Group. The yard replaced the propulsion machinery, installing two 2,040 kW MAN B&W 6L27/38 main engines and three 515kW MAN B&W 6L16/24 auxiliary engines. It has linked this power plant to two new propellers via a refurbished shafting arrangement that includes additional struts. It has also fitted new bow and stern thrusters and overhauled the four stabilisers. The vessel has been given new tanks for fuel oil, lube oil, drinking water and ballast. It has also had a new vacuum toilet system fitted along with a new solid waste incinerator, a new potable water treatment system, new air- conditioning units, new navigation and communication equipment and a new revolving crane on the bow. The technical fit-out is complemented by a complete interior refurbishment, providing guests with accommodation in 18 cabins. The yard holds a letter of intent with the Papanicolau Group for the refurbishment of another historic ship, a former naval school vessel and private yacht of ex-Yugoslav president Tito, Galeb.
