Croatia’s Uljanik, Jadroplov to build four bulk carriers

The 37,000dwt vessels are to have a length of 183m and a width of 30m. Launch is scheduled for 2015 with completion by the end of 2017, Uljanik said in a statement. The contract was inked in late December 2013.

Under the deal, a subsidiary of Uljanik, the 3 Maj shipyard, will build the vessels for companies co-owned by Uljanik and Jadroplov.

The shipbuilder is based in Rijeka, Croatia. In addition to bulk carriers, the 3 Maj shipyard has delivered oil and chemical tankers, container ships and other types of vessels.

Set up in 1856, Uljanik is headquartered in Pula, Croatia. The group has an aggregate workforce of 4,321. Of these, 1,737 workers are employed by the 3 Maj shipyard, according to the latest available data from Uljanik.

Established in 1947 and based in Split, Croatia, Jadroplov operates a fleet of eight bulk carriers ranging from 42,500dwt to 52,100dwt, according to figures released by the company. Jadroplov says it has a combined workforce of about 400.
