Crosscomar dives deep to free bulker

When the crew started heaving up, they couldn’t hoist up the anchor and discovered that it was fouled on the sea bed by an abandoned chain.

Crosscomar’s diving team faced two difficult challenges, firstly the weather conditions were rough and, secondly, the significant water depth (over 50m) was going to make the job highly risky. Once the situation had been assessed, the divers went down 25m and connected the anchor chain to the winch on the workboat and managed to bring up several lengths which enabled the diving team to cut the chain that was entangled round the anchor.
