’Mein Schiff 3’ takes shape in Turku

Production of the ship, newbuilding 1383, began one year ago, and Mein Schiff 3 is scheduled for delivery in spring 2014. Sister ship NB 1384 is currently under production and will be delivered one year after Mein Schiff 3. According to STX, these two ships are being built to a record-breaking timescale. Production practices with high block outfitting ratio and modularisation have been employed which, combined with concepts such as the outer decks concept, have proved successful.

The two sisters are each of 99,000gt, about 295m long and 36m wide. Passenger capacity is around 2,500 in 1,253 staterooms and crew complement is about 1,000. They will feature an exhaust gas treatment system to minimise sulphur, NOx, fine dust and soot emissions. The ships have been designed to optimise energy efficiency, resultin in an anticipated 30% reduction in total energy requirements compared to other cruise ships of similar size.

“We are very pleased to float out this superb cruise ship according to schedule. After this float-out, the work will continue very intensively with final installation of the various systems of the ship and interior outfitting. The ship will be ready for delivery to the customer in spring of 2014,” said Jari Anttila, deputy CEO of STX Finland.
