CSBC cuts out China
Taiwan took another step to distance itself from China by removing or toning down ‘China’ from the names of two state enterprises.
The Economics Ministry ordered the Chinese Petroleum Corp (CPC) to change its Chinese name to Taiwan Chinese Petroleum Corp, and the China Shipbuilding Corp (CSBC) to change its name to Taiwan International Shipbuilding Corp.
The ministry said it will allow both firms to continue to use their English logos CPC and CSBC because they were world logos and changing them would affect both firms’ contracts with foreign countries. The name change would take effect after being passed at both companies’ board meetings and approved by the cabinet.
