CSL plans small ship division

With the Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) in India getting orders from reputed offshore operators for building OSVs and AHTSs vessels, it plans to open a Small Ship Division, its Chairman and Managing Director M Jitendran said.

The yard is at present constructing 14 Platform Supply vessels (PSV) for European clients. The CSL’s ship building achievement this year is likely to surpass its earlier record of 110,206 DWT achieved in 2005-06 and increase to 149,000 DWT. Its repair turnover up to December 2006 was Rs 160 crore against the target of Rs 150 crore.

The yard delivered Clipper Trust, the third of the six 30,000 DWT bulk carriers being built here for Clipper Line, Denmark, and also launched the fourth ship of the series which has been named Clipper Tivoli.

A PSV was also recently launched for Deep Sea Supply, Norway. This is the third of a series of 12 PSVs being built in the yard for the firm. The first ship of this series will be delivered next week. The shipyard had already delivered 3 fire-fighting tugs for ATCO Saudi Arabia in addition to the first two of the six bulk carriers for Clipper.
