Cylinder liners NOx marked

MAN B&W has added cylinder liners to the list of NOx-effecting items on its MC engines. In effect this means that operators will only be able to purchase replacement liners from the company, or one of its licensees that can show it has manufactured the liner to the original specification.

Independent suppliers will have to show that their product will not alter the NOx production of the engine. This may be possible by ensuring adherence to specific dimensions like the liner top flange thickness and distance to the top of the inlet ports.

For any surveyor to approve liners in this way, the shipowner would have had to specify that all critical dimensions are included in the technical documentation of the engine.
