Cylinder pressure processing for marine gas engines

Avat Automation’s gas engine signal processor is now available in a classification society approved marine version

Building on experience with stationary gas engines in cogeneration plants, the company says it is now addressing the market for marine spark-ignited and dual-fuel gas engines with marinised, classification society approved versions of its products.

The first marine product to be launched is a combustion signal processor, designed to work with all leading makes of cylinder pressure sensors. It is intended to provide key combustion values needed to implement advanced cylinder pressure based control strategies, including precise cylinder balancing.

The processor, known as E²Precon-M, is able to acquire real time data for every power stroke, and then process the data into key values used for monitoring and diagnosis.

Computed parameters include indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP), maximum combustion pressure (Pmax), heat release, start of combustion, centre of combustion, duration of combustion, knock intensity and misfire detection.
