Daewoo enjoys new orders and productivity increase

Daewoo Shipbuilding has clinched two 6,700 units PCTCs with delivery during the second half of 2006. The new order also includes two options. The Korean shipbuilder also secured an order for a VLCC from TCC in Taiwan with one more option and another VLCC order from World Wide in Hong Kong. The Okpo-based shipbuilder also expects to win a contract for two plus two 4,000TEU class container ships from a European ship owner and a 145,700 cbm LNG carrier from Kristen Navigation.

The shipbuilder saw its productivity improving sharply and successfully launched three ships constructed in No. 1 dock recently. These consisted of a 147,000 DWT product carrier for SCI, a 138,000 CBM regassification LNG carrier for EXMAR, and a Kizomba B-TLP project for Exxon Mobil.
