Dalian breaks into VLCC market

China?s Dalian New Shipyard has won an order from National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) to build five 300,000 dwt VLCCs.

The order marks the first occasion that Dalian New Shipyard (or any other Chinese yard) has built VLCCs, and provides continued evidence of the growing technological sophistication of Chinese shipbuilders. The VLCC order follows hard on the heels of Guangzhou Shipyard International?s breakthrough order for new ro-pax ferries from Rederi AB Gotland.
