Danfoss to develop electric marine winch with Kongsberg

Marine winches are used in on-water construction projects for offshore wind farms as well as other special vessels. The largest expected markets are fishing, research and seismic vessels.

The electric-powered winches are lighter than hydraulic winches, and do not require pipes or a separate hydraulic power unit. Electric-powered winches are more energy efficient than hydraulic winches, requiring lower average power usage, even when in idle operation. Electric-powered winches can also be controlled remotely.

Two Danfoss Editron drivetrain electric-winch systems have been supplied to the offshore and seismic markets.
