Data logging system simplifies fuel savings

RRIsis, a joint venture between RR Maritime Engineering and Imotec, says that monitoring is the first step towards fuel savings. Creating awareness helps save several percentage points of fuel consumption on ships, while monitoring is an integral part of the now-mandatory IMO SEEMP guidelines. “Taking expensive measures without measuring their effectiveness through monitoring has no use,” said Imotec director Jan Peters.

Mr Peters points out that however desirable is the concept of fuel monitoring, one major drawback is the risk of increasing the already high workload of the ship’s crew. And email or paper reports tend to get lost in the office and are not easily available to all participants.

He adds that the system delivers automated monitoring of ship and fleet and facilitates collaboration between ship and shore, with information about the vessel continuously available through a cloud based application. The RRIsis datalogger can be installed in one day.
