Davie Québec confirms CECON contract

Davie Québec shipyard in Canada has confirmed that, barely four months after being acquired by Norwegian investors, the yard has signed two firm shipbuilding contracts worth $132.6 million each with Cecon AS for Vik-Sandvik designed VS 4220 offshore construction vessels.

Construction of the two 10,000kW newbuilds measuring 130m in length with a beam of 28m will run from August 2007 to August 2009. Both ships are slated to be built entirely at the Lévis facility, with specialized workers gradually being recalled to the yard, and numbering more than 600 at their peak in July 2008.

In addition to the firm contracts, the yard said the deal also includes signed options on four other similar ships valued at $530.4 million. Cecon AS has until 15 February 2008 to exercise the options.
