The company estimates that around 30% of the total energy consumption of a cruise ship comes from HVAC for public spaces as well as accommodation and galley ventilation, which it says has a major impact on profitability and environmental issues. The demand for more energy efficient systems and greener technologies has been the starting point for the design of the new galley ventilation system.

Marvel is described as the first truly intelligent, responsive, and completely flexible demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) system specifically designed for Halton hoods. Compared to traditional hoods, the Marvel system, combined with the Halton Capture Jet technology is claimed to save up to 50% in galley energy consumption. This also, says Halton, contributes to environmental effiiency.

Marvel has already been delivered to over 40 land-based projects, and the company’s Halton Marine subsidiary has just announced the first system order for an as-yet unidentified major cruise ship, which will be delivered in 2012.
