Demand for LNG membrane containment
The agreement means that Palumbo Malta becomes the 17th shipyard to achieve the high standards of safety and quality demanded by GTT when it comes to the repair of the membrane systems during drydock.
“The partnership with Palumbo will reinforce the drydock offer in the Mediterranean area, which is located in the crossroads of several commercial routes,” said Philippe Berterottiére, chairman and CEO, GTT.
The yard will also benefit from dedicated training conducted by GTT and is optimistic that the demand for LNG will grow in the future, only helped by the fact that it has now been formally recognised as an approved GTT shipyard.
GTT has received four orders for four new liquified natural gas carriers (LNGCs) and one floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) in the last quarter of 2014.
The LNGC orders are from the same shipyard but are for different customers and are expected to start being delivered in 2017. Also due for delivery in 2017 is the FSRU is being built by a different shipyard.
These new orders bring the total number of new orders for GTT to 43 in 2014.
