Derecktor launches ferry

Derecktor Shipyards in Bridgeport, USA, has launched the second of two ferries for the Bermuda government. The Bridgeport shipbuilder won the contract for the second ferry late in 2006, shortly after it delivered the first built for Bermuda and the yard built the ferry in just under nine months.

The newbuilding is 38.10 m long, can carry 350 passengers, is powered by four diesel and four water jets and can travel at about 38 knots. Although Derecktor has never confirmed the value of the contract, Bermuda press reports indicate each ship is worth about $4.99 million.
