Developing a Frontline VLCC

Importer

Hyundai Heavy Industries enhanced its reputation within the VLCC tanker sector with the delivery of

Front Century

to Frontline in July.

The 311,000 dwt vessel is the first of a series of five `C-class` sister ships which are being built for the Bermuda-based owner at HHI. The other four vessels are due to be handed over in the first six months of 1999.

A number of energy-saving specifications have been included in the design, while the vessel also incorporates several novel features designed to ensure high levels of environmental protection, in compliance with the latest international regulations as laid out in MARPOL Annex 1, Regulation 13F.

Front Century

is notable as well for its hull form, which is new and which has been developed by HHI specifically for this series. The vessel further differs from conventional VLCCs in having a `blunt` fore part and a breadth of 58m. Combined, these features are intended to help Frontline achieve lower sea margins when operating in rough seas.
