DFDS orders Dolphins

Danish Ferry operator DFDS Seaways has ordered Dolphin Safe Rescuer rescue boat/lifeboats for its fleet of roro passenger ships from Sea Safe Boats Sweden. The crafts meet the IMO requirements, which come into force on July 1, 2000, says Sea Safe. The order from DFDS Seaways is the first major order for the Dolphin Safe Rescuer.

The fast rescue boat/lifeboat, which is designed for rescue operations in severe weather conditions, can accommodate 18 persons and is powered by a diesel powered water jet.

The craft is enclosed to protect both crew and casualties against hypothermia, and features an aft platform without freeboard to aid the recovery of people from the water. Two ballast tunnels are also fitted to help stability in severe sea conditions.
