DP World launches sustainable vessels

The Navios Utmost and Navios Unite were officially named during a ceremony at the Changhong shipyard in Zhoushan, China, and will be integrated into the Unifeeder fleet as part of a broader fleet renewal initiative focused on deploying more efficient vessels.

“By integrating advanced technologies, we are reducing our environmental impact while enhancing the flexibility and reliability of our services. These vessels are a significant step forward in our efforts to reshape the future of global trade, ensuring it remains resilient and sustainable.”

Both vessels are Sapphire 5300 compact gearless container ships, equipped with advanced maritime technologies that improve cargo handling efficiency, lower operational costs, and support a sustainable maritime industry.

Designed with hull optimisation and energy-saving technologies, these vessels aim to maximise fuel efficiency while minimising their carbon footprint. Notably, the Navios Utmost is projected to save around 1,700 metric tonnes of bunker fuel annually, resulting in a 15% to 20% reduction in carbon emissions on its intended routes.

The compact design of the vessels enhances their manoeuvrability, allowing access to smaller ports and inland terminals, thereby expanding supply chain networks. The Navios Utmost will serve in Unifeeder’s Far East Madras Express Service, while the Navios Unite will be part of the Asian Gulf India Service.

This addition is aligned with DP World Marine Services’ ongoing efforts to modernise its fleet for efficient, sustainable operations that support regional trade growth.

In 2024, Unifeeder Group secured long-term charters for methanol-capable feeder vessels, and recent initiatives include a partnership with MPC Container Ships to invest in energy efficiency technology and the launch of ‘GreenBox’, a carbon insetting solution to decarbonise customers’ seaborne supply chains.
